About the Memphis VA Medical Center: The VAMC in Memphis, TN consists of one main campus located at 1030 Jefferson Avenue and ten community based outpatient clinics (CBOC). It is a tertiary care facility, classified as a Clinical Referral Level I Facility and one of the the most complex medical centers in the VA system. It is a teaching hospital for the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology, as well as extensive education and research programs. Comprehensive primary, secondary, and tertiary health care is provided in areas of internal medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, spinal cord injury, neurology, oncology, dentistry, and geriatrics. Specialized outpatient services are provided through general, specialty, and sub specialty outpatie! nt clinics including a women's health center. Services are available to more than 206,000 Veterans living in a 53-county tri-state area (Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi).

Designated and/or Random drug testing DUTIES:
A non-interventional cardiologist is being recruited to provide clinical care, teaching and some administrative responsibilities for the Medical Service to ensure achievement of the clinical, research, and education goals and applicable performance measures in Cardiology. The incumbent reports to the Section Chief of Cardiology.

As a Staff Physician in the Cardiology Section of the Medical Service at the Memphis VAMC, the successful applicant will ! serve as Attending Physician for the Inpatient Cardiology Service (incl! uding the Cardiology Care Unit and the Cardiology Consulting Service) and the Outpatient Cardiology Clinics. The incumbent will also perform cardiology procedures including, but not limited to: Swan-Ganz catheter placement, diagnostic cardiac catherization, insertion of temporary pacemaker, cardio version, percutaneous intra-aortic balloon pump insertion/removal, pericardial drainage, echocardiography (including stress echo) cardiovascular stress and tilt-table testing, measurement of oxygen consumption, and Holter monitoring. If qualified, service in the Intensive Care Unit and performance of nuclear cardiology tests would be desirable. Therefore, additional Board certification and/or training in Critical Care and/or Nuclear Cardiology are preferred. As faculty in the Department of Medicine at the University of Tennessee, the successful applicant will also teach medical students and train Medicine residents and Cardiology fellows.

The incumbent will comply with al! l the provisions outlined in the Information Security policies and regulations. He/she is expected to meet the performance measures of VHA Core Competencies specific for his/her service. The incumbent will help meet performance measures for Acute Coronary Syndrome, Congestive Heart Failure, and other measures with cardiology service.

Working Hours: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday-Friday, weekend calls and holidays are shared with other attending physicians

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
U.S. citizenship

Physical standards - All applicants must meet the physical standards for the position. A physical examination prior to employment may be required.

Licensure and Registration - Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, Ter! ritory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States or in ! the District of Columbia. The Physician must maintain a current registration to continue employment with the VA Educational requirements.

Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine and Cardiology.

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

ACLS certification and training in moderate sedation by date of employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Board certification in Critical Care and/or Nuclear Cardiology preferred; proficiency with diagnostic cardiac catherization; eligibility for academic appointment at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.
