Location: Nashville, Tennessee

Description: Vanderbilt University is hiring Research Assistant I right now, this vacancy will be assigned in Tennessee. The Psychiatry Department is seeking Research Assistant I (Term), under direct supervision, to provide support for specified research projects; collect, assess, and communicate data/results. Assist! in general laboratory operation and inventory. This position will use neuroimaging and neuropsychological testing to understand brain dysfunction in schizophrenia.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

Under supervision, run experiments, assays, and record results

Responsible for recruiting research subjects into various clinical research studies and assisting investigators in the collection and analysis of study data.

performing diagnostic interviews, administering neuropsychological/cognitive tests, and carrying out neuroimaging study protocols.

Database management, analysis of behavioral and brain imaging data, and assisting with manuscript preparation.

Read and follow experimental protocols (May include animal handling, tissue culture, etc.)

Compile and communicate results to supervisor

Follow University safety protocols (may include use of combustibles, radioactivity,! toxic material, and/or carcinogenics)

Perform calcul! ations involving molarity, % solutions, and serial dilutions

Prepare and operate equipment in experimental procedures

May include blood gas analyzer, centrifuge, pH meter, spectrophotometer, autoclave, scintillation counter, electrophoresis unit, analytical balance, etc.

Maintain and repair equipment according to manufacturer and university guidelines.

Ensure laboratory is prepared for experiments

Maintain inventories.

Maintain steril conditions as required

Prepare reagents

Clean equipment

Prepare reagents

NOTE:
A Term position is a staff position that exists for a period longer than six months but is not expected to last beyond one year. Although a position may exist for a specified or indefinite period, staff who accept term positions are not guaranteed employment for the entire period; they are employed for indefinite periods within the ! limit of the appointment. There are no guarantees of continued employment, either within the term or when the term ends.

This is a full-time, salaried position.

Salary is commensurate upon years of education and experience.

Basic Qualifications

Required Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Psychology or a related field required (i.e. neuroscience).

Strong interpersonal skills, organization, attention to detail, and problem solving abilities.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) is essential.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
Highly motivated and capable of working independently.

Individuals interested in the biological ba! sis of mental disorders, neuropsychology and/or neuroscience, and neuro! imaging are especially encouraged to apply. Experience in a clinical research setting is highly desirable.

Experience using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and MATLAB is preferred.

Training in diagnostic interviewing methods, neuropsychological testing, and neuroimaging data analysis will be provided.
