Student Life & Leadership (SL&L) is a large and complex campus unit consisting of 17 departments with a variety of funding sources and staffing sizes. SL&L has more than 100 staff employees, 200-250 student employees and an annual operating budget of $10.5 million. The departments within SL&L provide a wide range of programs and services for the undergraduate and graduate students at UCI.
Applies professional human resources, organization policies and procedures to provide guidance to supervisors and managers to resolve a variety of human resources issues of moderate scope and complexity. Under the general direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor/Dean of Students, serve as Human Resources Generalist for Student Life & Leadership (SL&L) to over 100 career employees and over 200 student employees. Responsible for coordination of personnel and payroll administration, conducting new hire orientations and on boarding into UCPath, reviewing and preparing reclassification forms, preparing Workers Compensation and Injury Incident Reports, providing benefit information, preparing benefit forms, reviewing and submitting employee timesheets into the Time Keeping System, preparing all payroll and personnel employment documents, maintaining personnel and other files. Identify corrective action issues and implement disciplinary actions. Develop and implement employee training and resources related to the HR functions within SLL. Provide advice and assistance to management in interpreting and applying policies under collective bargaining unit agreements and UC personnel regulations. Oversee the preparation and completion of special projects within SLL. Position will have a hybrid work schedule.

$28.02 - $33.50 (Hourly Rate) Expected Pay Range within the Full Salary Range $28.02 - $49.66 (Hourly Rate)


Required:
2-5 years of experience in personnel analysis and Human Resources management or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations; demonstrates organizational skills and problem-solving skills. Has working knowledge of other areas of HR. Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures and knowledge of functional area. Basic knowledge of human resources policies and programs, and how they affect other organizational policies and procedures. Knowledge of a human resources management system (HRMS), and / or other related business software programs and systems. Proficient in communicating clearly and effectively verbally and in writing and in integrating information in the completion of assignments. Demonstrated ability to handle difficult or volatile situations / individuals effectively. Knowledge and experience working with a diverse staff and student populations. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals at all levels at UCI. Ability to identify problems, gather data, research alternative solutions, display the information and recommendations professionally, implement the solution, and evaluate the results. The ability to audit monthly time sheets, sick leave, and vacation reports. Ability to reconcile monthly payroll ledgers. Excellent written and verbal communication skills required to provide information in a clear and concise and logical manner to and from staff, students, vendors and various campus departments. Ability to present written and verbal communication to upper-level management. Ability to work independently, organizing, prioritizing, and processing detailed work to meet established deadlines Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software such as MS Word, MS Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as knowledge of electronic mail keeping systems Ability to maintain a positive attitude and contribute both as an individual and a team member to achieve the goals of the department


Preferred:
Knowledge and experience with UCI payroll and on-line time reporting processes. Experience working with represented and non-represented employees. Experience working in an academic/university setting.
