About the Memphis VA Medical Center: The VAMC in Memphis, Tennessee consists of one main campus located at 1030 Jefferson Avenue, which includes a sixty-bed Spinal Cord Injury Unit, and ten community based outpatient clinics (CBOC). It is a tertiary care facility classified as a Clinical Referral Level I Facility and one of the most complex medical centers in the VA system. It is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology, as well as extensive education and research programs. Comprehensive primary, secondary, and tertiary health care is provided in areas of medicine, general cardiovascular and neurological surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, spinal cord injury, neurology, oncology, dentistry, and geriatrics. Specialized outpatient services are provided through general, specialty, and subspecialty outpatient clinics including a women's health center. Services are available to more than 206,000 Veterans living in a fifty three county tri-state area (Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi).

KEY REQUIREMENTS

U.S. Citizenship

Full unrestricted Licensure, Certification, or Registration required.

DUTIES:
A Recruitment Incentive and Relocation expenses are negotiable for a Highly Qualified Candidate. Incumbent must sign an agreement to remain with the VAMC Memphis for a minimum of two years.

Description of Duties : The VA Medical Center Memphis is seeking a full time physician, board certified in internal medicine. The incumbent provides administrative, clinical, and programmatic leadership for the Medical Service, and officially serves as the back-up for the Chief, Medical Service. This physician will devote at least 50% of his/her assignment focusing on performance improvement throughout the Medical Service. The incumbent will have major responsibility for discharge/transfer processes; inpatient flow processes; outpatient systems redesign, quality improvement initiatives, performance measures, performance monitors, and reporting status and progress to local and VISN leadership. The incumbent will work cooperatively and collaboratively with section chiefs and clinic supervisors, Nursing Service, Business Office staff and others to assure success in meeting performance goals. The incumbent will also assist with operational processes such as employee education and travel; performance appraisals; pay; recredentialing; and resident compliance. The incumbent will devote the remaining 50% of his/her time largely to clinical care activities related to their specialty.

  • NOTE: MUST BE ELGIBLE FOR AN ACADEMIC APPOINTMENT AT THE ASSOCIATE OR FULL PROFESSOR LEVEL AT OUR AFFILIATE UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE HEALTH SCIENCE CENTER. MUST BE A PHYSICIAN BOARD CERTIFIED BY THE AMERICIAN BOARD OF INTERNAL MEDICINE OR EQUIVALENT.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Basic Qualification Requirements :
a. Citizenship - US Citizenship required unless US Citizens are not available . Non-citizens may be appointed when no citizens are available in accordance with regulations issued by the Under Secretary for Health. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) supports the Exchange Visitor Program and the 2-year home residence requirement and seeks waivers only when it is clearly in the interest of the Department and its programs.

b. Education - Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine, and board certifications in Internal Medicine and/or an Internal Medicine subspecialty are required.

c. Licensure and Registration - Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States , or in the District of Columbia .

d. Physical Standards - Applicant must meet the physical standards established for this position.

e. English Language Proficiency - Applicant must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(s) and 7407(d).
