Shift: 7pm - 7am

The Vanderbilt Sleep Research Core is offering an exciting position as a polysomnographic technologist collecting sleep and electroencephalography (EEG) data for various research projects.

The Sleep Core facilitates interdisciplinary research of sleep (adult and pediatrics, neurology, pulmonary, psychiatry) and its relationships with health and waking functions. This is a great opportunity to gain experience in the research aspect of this growing field.

This position would work as needed to accommodate investigators and study participants. The majority of procedures occur during normal weeknights. However, procedures do rarely occur on weekends.

The workload estimations for this position are approximately 60-70 procedures in the next twelve months. As the census increases in the future, so may the hours associated with this position.

Attends in-services, conferences, and job related classes as requested by supervisors.

Key Functions and Expected Performances:
1. Collects data for all types of studies such as diagnostic, MSLT, CPAP titration, EEG, etc. according to research protocols.

2. Performs all specialty studies such as pediatric, extended EEG with video, CO2 monitoring.

3. Applies appropriate leads, belts, and probes. Uses correct montages, obtains calibrations, and records studies per policy and protocol.

4. Demonstrates competency in performing procedures and providing education for all age ranges.

5. Helps maintain sleep logs/database with appropriate participant information.

6. Cleans and returns equipment in usable condition (i.e. wires, belts, probes, cables) and maintains work area/equipment in orderly condition.

7. Maintains equipment in good condition and reports problems to appropriate personnel.

8. Assist with the ordering of supplies and equipment in lab.

9. Reports low supplies before running out in lab, maintains inventory.

10. Assists research staff in scheduling procedures when necessary (i.e. communicates personal schedule in timely manner).

11. Ensures patient safety at all times.

12. Understands proper procedure for all emergency situations and is able to direct staff and patients.

13. Maintains patients' right to privacy and confidentiality.

14. Follows professional code of ethics.

15. Appropriately explains procedures to patients based on age and understanding.

16. Reports pertinent patient information to appropriate physician and/or supervisor.

17. Displays positive interpersonal skills with patients, families, staff, and physicians.

Basic Qualifications

Job requires State of Tennessee Polysomnographic Technologist license.

Candidates must be able to work alone, have attention to detail, and work with a sense of purpose. They must also have the ability to perform all types of sleep studies and learn new protocol specific data collection techniques.

Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration (LCR):
State of Tennessee Polysomnographic Technologist license is required. License eligible candidates will be considered with the agreement that the license is obtained. CPR, BLS, and/or ACLS are also required.
