Overview of position includes but is not limited to the following:
The incumbent will serve as the Advanced Medical Support Assistant (MSA) in Compensation & Pension (C&P) Service.
The incumbent is responsible for performing the administrative operations of the Compensation and Pension Program. The staff in this unit initiates and carries out a variety of advisory and technical duties, including receiving and scheduling requests for C&P examinations. Incumbent will also maintain a tracking log utilizing Microsoft Excel software. Will order labs, x-rays and other tests necessary for the examinations, service and clinic reception. Will also provide administrative support for clinical staff who perform C&P exams, and communicating with VBA staff at various VA Regional Offices throughout the United States.
The C&P staff works closely with the clerks and technicians from other services in Medical, Surgical, Psychiatry and Ancillary c! linics at all divisions within the integrated health care syst! em where C&P exams may be performed.
Incumbent must demonstrate the Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities below:

Ability to collaborate, communicate, set priorities, and organize the work in order to meet deadlines, ensuring compliance with established processes, policies, and regulations.

Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively, both orally and in writing, in order to meet program objectives. This may include preparing reports in various formats and presenting data to various organizational levels.

Advanced knowledge of the technical health care process as it relates to access to care.

Advanced knowledge of managing a clinic. This includes independently utilizing reference sources, decision making, and empowering the team to collaborate and resolve problems within a complex systems environment.

Advanced knowledge of policies and procedures associated with operational activities that affect the patient flow, patient care,! and the revenue process.

Advanced knowledge of medical terminology due to the technical nature of language utilized by clinicians.

Qualifications & Evaluations

BASIC QUALIFICATION STANDARD REQUIREMENTS:
U.S. citizenship
Experience and education: (1) Experience - Six months experience of clerical, office or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; or (2) Education - o ne year above high school; or Experience/Education - equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable.

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-06 LEVEL: Requires a minimum of one year specialized experience at the GS-05 level. This experience must have been in a clinical setting and must have demonstrated the potential to perform adv! anced assignments independently. Specialized experience must include:
