The Boys and Girls Club of Pharr assessing the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on children in Hidalgo County, with the support of AmeriCorps members will to implement the BOOSTR program. Developed to provide comprehensive remediation to youth in Hidalgo County, the program considers the complexities (including structural and institutional inequities), and focuses on the various factors that can help them succeed. With this in mind, and the understanding that traditional educational interventions alone are not enough, the BOOSTR program is comprised of two components; education, and mental health support services. In developing the components of the program , the Club considered research-based activities and evidence-based programs that were most likely to lead to the overall objective of; academic success.
Member Duties : AmeriCorps members will lead small group learning clusters, plan and facilitate parent workshops and family events, seek partners to increase community collaboration, perform case management and outcome measurements. AmeriCorps Members will provide services to 1,500 low-income minority youth ages 5-17, in grades K-12, at 12 Boys & Girls Club locations throughout Hidalgo County
