About the Mem! phis VA Medical Center:
The VAMC in Memphis, TN consis! ts of one main campus located at 1030 Jefferson Avenue, which includes a 60-bed Spinal Cord Injury Unit, and ten community based outpatient clinics (CBOC).

It is a tertiary care facility classified as a Clinical Referral Level I Facility and one of the most complex medical centers in the VA system.

It is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology, as well as extensive education and research programs.

Comprehensive primary, secondary, and tertiary health care is provided in areas of medicine, general cardiovascular and neurological surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, spinal cord injury, neurology, oncology, dentistry, and geriatrics.

Tour Hours: Vacancy 1 - Night Shift, every Sunday and Monday, not to exceed 32 hours a pay period

Vacancy 2 - Evening Shift, rotating shedule, not to exceed 48 hours a pay period

DUTIES:
The Inpatient Clinical Staff Pharmacist is a representative of the Pharmacy Service, for critical and acute care sections of inpatient beds and for ambulatory care areas.

This position covers direct and i! ndirect patient care, appropriate, safe and economical medication use a! nd provides pharmaceutical care services, including monitoring, quality assurance/ improvement, staff/patient education and consultation.

The incumbent serves in a multi-functional role and is specially prepared by pharmacy education and experience to have an advanced knowledge of pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and pharmacotherapeutics. Dispensing: Fills prescriptions by selecting the correct drug and dosage form, reducing the drug from bulk to the quantity prescribed, compounding when necessary, then packaging and labeling the drug in an appropriate manner.

Exercises care in the dispensing of drugs, especially controlled substances, investigational and cytotoxic drugs, to assure that legal and agency regulations and instructions are followed, that proper and complete recordkeeping is maintained, and that the drug storage areas are stocked, safe, and secure.

Reviews the patient medication profile prior to dispensing drugs and me! dications.

Facilitates special formulations, and extemporaneous compounding of routine and special parenteral medications requiring complex preparation and/or dosing procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
U.S. citizenship.

Graduate of a degree program in pharmacy from an approved college or university.

Full, current and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (i.e. Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia.

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
Grade and salary determination will be based on the individual's qualifications and will be recommended by a Professional Standards Board.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-12 LEVEL:
Requires the completion of the equivalent of 1 year of creditable experience at the next lower grade which is directly related to the position to be filled. In addition, pharmacists in these assignment! s must demonstrate the following knowledges, skills, abilities and othe! r characteristics:

1. In depth knowledge of a specialized area of clinical pharmacy practice or a specialty area of pharmacy such as quality assurance/utilization review, ADP systems, drug information, etc.

2. Advanced knowledge of pharmaceutics, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and pharmachotherapeutics.

3. Skill in monitoring and assessing the outcome of drug therapies including physical assessment and interpretation of laboratory and other diagnostic parameters.

4. Knowledge of the design, conduct, and interpretation of controlled clinical drug trials or other research related to health care.

5. Ability to communicate orally and in writing with a wide variety of individuals. This would typically include beneficiaries, professionals in other health care disciplines, and health related groups in the community.

6. Knowledge of the standards related to distribution and control of scheduled and non-scheduled drugs (incl! uding research and investigational drugs).
