The Scientific Investigations Division of the Sheriff's Department is recruiting for Fingerprint Examiners II who retrieve, classify, and maintain fingerprint records and perform fingerprint analysis according to varied and complex fingerprint characteristics. Fingerprint Examiners II are responsible for performing a wide range of technical tasks exercising independent judgment and initiative analyzing, classifying, identifying and matching fingerprints. Additionally, they may provide expert testimony in court regarding fingerprint identification; and act as lead workers, providing instruction, oversight and technical assistance.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

1) Background: Prior to appointment, applicants will be fingerprinted and must pass an extensive background investigation, including a polygraph examination. Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony.
2) Shift: The jail facilities operate 24/7, and require maintenance any time of the day or night; therefore, the ideal candidate is available to work days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call.
3) Travel: Travel throughout the County is required. Employees may be provided a County car to use in performance of duties. At time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced and maintained for the individual providing the transportation.

Minimum Requirements

Experience: Two (2) years of full-time journey level experience performing duties for a law enforcement organization equivalent to a San Bernardino County Fingerprint Examiner II (classification AND identification of fingerprints); experience must include use of federal/state/county/local fingerprint identification computer programs.

Desired Qualifications

Certification by the International Association for Identification is highly desirable; indicate certificate number and expiration date on the application.

Experience with knowledge of Live Scan capture process is also desirable.
