Mental Health Therapist Job Description:
Mental therapists are trained and licensed to treat clients with emotional, behavioral and mental disorders. They may work in conjunction with psychologists and psychiatrists and refer patients to these specialists as they see fit. Counseling sessions may be one-to-one, group therapy, or sessions involving family members.
People might seek out a mental health therapist if they are dealing with such issues as stress, grief, addiction, depression or conflict. Therapists may also work with patients who have special needs. A good mental health therapist allows patients to share their emotions and listens objectively and without passing judgment. This encourages patients to open up and be frank about their emotional issues.
As part of the counseling process, they conduct interviews, testing and risk assessme nt sessions with patients in order to evaluate their mental condition and formulate a treatment plan. They keep detailed notes and records on their patients and monitor their progress. With these tools, therapists are able to make a diagnosis of mental illness and advise their patients on the best treatment plans.
Women On Maintaining Education and Nutrition is seeking to fill this Licensed Therapist position and the duration will be through contract. The therapist will have a flexible schedule determined by patient load, volunteer availability, and other determining factors. Our team will assist with appointment scheduling. We are currently not seeking a therapist for weekend hours however upon demand that could change. Although contracted through our agency patients will receive your services free of charge. The goal is to bridge the gap for those in need of mental health services however who are unable to obtain mental health services. You will learn much more about this during your interview if selected.
The Licensed Therapist is critical to achieving this focus by providing specialized interventions to and for our clients. Women On Maintaining Education and Nutrition employees are required to model the company’s mission, vision, and values in the course of their employment.
Summary:
While providing individual, group and family therapy, the Licensed Therapist participates in interdisciplinary treatment planning by developing an annual comprehensive clinical/psychosocial assessment and crisis intervention consultation.
Responsibilities of our Licensed Mental Health Professional
- Helping patients reflect on issues to help them make positive changes
- Liaising with others (if needed) to help any changes happen
- Referring patients to other therapies
- Setting up a contract to establish what will be covered in the sessions
- Setting up any confidentiality issues
- Encouraging patients to talk
- Keeping detailed records of all sessions
- Improved functional skills, promoted emotional health and physical wellbeing, increased independence, and facilitated full community participation
- Work with patients to document goals
- Complete daily applicable paperwork and treatment plan goals
- Promote emotional health and physical wellbeing, increased independence and facilitated full community participation through behavior modeling, psycho education, and intervention
- Implement comprehensive family planning by working with an interdisciplinary team
- Design individualized behavioral interventions to prevent problems and promote positive behaviors
- Provision of crisis intervention services to staff or patient self-referral
- Coordination of aftercare planning for patients appropriate for discharge from services
Qualifications our Licensed Mental Health Professional
- Bachelor's degree
- Licensed Mental Health Therapist or Doctorate Degree in Mental Health Therapy
- Licensed in the state of TN as either a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Professional Counselor (LPC) or a Psychological Examiner (LPE)
- At least 2 years’ experience
- Valid driver’s license
- Possess good interpersonal communication skills
- Able to effectively interact with staff, volunteers, and outside agencies
- Proof of automobile insurance
- Reliable transportation
- Certified in first aid/CPR ( A +) Certification in proper de-escalation techniques using Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), and universal precautions required Clinical Therapist ( A +)
