About the Memphis VA Medical Center: The VAMC in Memphis, Tennessee consists of one main campus located at 1030 Jefferson Avenue, which includes a sixty-bed Spinal Cord Injury Unit, and ten community based outpatient clinics (CBOC). It is a tertiary care facility classified as a Clinical Referral Level 1 Facility and one of the most complex medical centers in the VA system. It is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology, as well as extensive! education and research programs. Comprehensive primary, secon! dary, and tertiary health care is provided in areas of medicine, general cardiovascular and neurological surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, spinal cord injury, neurology, oncology, dentistry, and geriatrics. Specialized outpatient services are provided through general, specialty, and sub-specialty outpatient clinics including a women's health center. Services are available to more than 206,000 Veterans living in a fifty three county tri-state area (Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi).Applicant's education and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected.Work Schedule: Various Rotating Shifts (Specific duty hours to be determined)Location of Position: Nursing Service (Emergency Department)ALS/BLS Certification is required.DUTIES: Major Duties: The Adult Nurse Practitioner position is located in the Emergency Department (ED) Service at ! the Memphis VA Medical Center. The position is assigned responsibility for providing comprehensive, high quality, cost effective healthcare services and consultation to patients who are rendered care in the Emergency Service. The Adult Nurse Practitioner is accountable for adhering to established policies, standard of care, and standards of practice, demonstrating leadership in a service as a role model.Description of Duties: The ANP will be responsive to patient needs, ensuring customer satisfaction, which reflects an understanding of age specific and developmental needs as demonstrated by fulfilling the following:

  • Incumbent support for the provision of evidence-based emergency medical and nursing care to meet individual patient requirements within the Emergency Department (ED) practice environment. Ensures thatpatients receive thorough explanations of any and all diagnostic testing performed during their ED visit.
  • She/he Identifying patient medical p! roblems, defining the medical management of medical problems.Meets prod! uctivity and performance measures as established by the ED. Completes documentation and encounters in a timely manner.
  • Determining consultation needs (i.e. from, medical, surgical, psychiatric subspeciality etc..). Completes documentation and encounters process in a timely manner.
  • Incumbent identifies patient needs and initiates appropriate referrals after discharge from ED.
  • Provides leadership in improving patient care, maintaining standards of care, and directing and teaching personnel in a variety of settings. Serves as a resource for all members of the ED staff.
  • Advocates for the coordination of ED patient care needs both within and outside of the ED, including all health care teams/members such as physicians, nurses, aides, Pharmacy, Social Services, Psychology/Psychiatry, Physical Therapy, Dietary and all otherdepartments.
Required Skills:
Citizenship: Applicant must be a citizen of the United States (No! ncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens).Education: Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), additional information may be obtained from the NLNAC website; ORThe Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), an accrediting arm of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN). The CCNE credits bachelor's and master's degree programs, additional information may be obtained from CCNE web site.Nurse Practitioner: A Nurse Practitioner must be licensed or otherwise recognized as a Nurse Practitioner in a State, possess a master's degree from a program accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE, and maintain full and current certification as a Nurse Practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationall! y recognized certifying body. The certification must be in the specialt! y to which the individual is being appointed or selected.Certification must be appropriate to the position being filled. Certifications considered would include certification in Emergency NP,or Acute Care NP.
Preferred Experience: Preferred candidate will have experience working in an Emergency Department setting.
