English Language Proficiency required. DUTIES:
The Chief of Neurology is a full-time administrative and clinica! l position. The successful applicant must have excellent communication skills and ability to work with staff physicians,house-staff and medical students. Administrative experience within an academic setting is desirable. The Chief physician will treat adult patients in inpatient settings and outpatient clinics. He/she will also be performing and interpreting EMG/nerve conduction studies and interpreting EEG's on site. The physician will participate in on-call rotation with other Neurology physicians on a regular basis for inpatient and outpatient services (where applicable). He/she is also expected to works off-hour shifts, week-ends, and holidays as per the on-call schedule. A track record of research is desirable and there are many opportunities for researching the VA system. The candidate should be proficient in general neurology and be American Board Certified or Board Eligible in that discipline. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

Citizenship! . Citizen of the United States.

Education. Degree of doctor of! medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Approved schools are:
Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.
Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e. Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.

Licensure and Registration. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the ! District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. The facility Director may waive this licensure requirement if the physician is to serve in a country other than the United States and the physician has a license in that country.

English Language Proficiency. Physicians, including residents, appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).

NOTE: Wearing of a respirator may be required at times in the performance of the duties of this position. As a result, employees assigned to these duties cannot have facial hair or any condition that interferes with the face-to-face piece seal or valve function of the respirator.

Additional Preferred Requirements:
Completion of Neurology fellowship in cerebrovascular disease and stroke, movement disorders, sleep medicine, and/or Alzheimer's dementia.
Board Certified or eligible by The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, ABPN.
Basic Life Support (BLS) and ACLS Certified

Customer Service - highly skilled in interpersonal effectiveness.

Must demonstrate administrative and leadership skills and be eligible to be clinically privileged in a medicine discipline. HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:
