About the Memphis VA Medical Center:
! The VAMC in Memphis, TN consists of one main campus located a! t 1030 Jefferson Avenue, which includes a 60-bed Spinal Cord Injury Unit, and ten community based outpatient clinics (CBOC).

It is a tertiary care facility classified as a Clinical Referral Level I Facility and one of the most complex medical centers in the VA system.

It is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology, as well as extensive education and research programs.

Comprehensive primary, secondary, and tertiary health care is provided in areas of medicine, general cardiovascular and neurological surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, spinal cord injury, neurology, oncology, dentistry, and geriatrics.

Specialized outpatient services are provided through general, specialty, and subspecialty outpatient clinics including a women's health center.

DUTIES:
**FIRST CONSIDERATION WILL BE GIVEN TO VA MEMPHIS BARGAINING UNIT EMPLOYEES**

The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist for Critical Care Medicine is a licensed pharmacist with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree, and completed an American Society of Health Systems Pharmacists accredited Clinical Pharmacy Practice Residency, or other equivalent experience. The incumbent is responsible for Critical Care/Pharmacokinetics/Antibiotic Surveillance consultation activities. The incumbent will work with ! the Interdisciplinary Critical Care Team(s) to assist in medication rec! onciliation, medication management, educate patients regarding medication(s) and Opioid service agreements, review pharmacologic modalities used and make patient specific recommendations to improve patient pain and functional status and reduce adverse effects, assist in identifying aberrant behaviors related to pharmacologic therapy, provide education for staff regarding Critical Care/Pharmacokinetics/Antibiotic Surevelliance, and assist in therapeutic monitoring of treatment if applicable. Clinical Privileges, or Scope of Practice documents in Critical Care will be acquired for practice as a provider, as directed by the Chief of Pharmacy Service, and as approved through the Pharmacy Professional Standards Board, the Chief of Staff, and the Medical Center Director.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
U.S. citizenship.

Graduate of a degree program in pharmacy from an approved college or university.

Full, current and u! nrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (i.e. Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia.

Non-licensed pharmacists who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements may be given a temporary appointment at the entry level as a Graduate Pharmacist under the authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405(c)(2)(B).

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
Grade and salary determination will be based on the individual's qualifications and will be recommended by a Professional Standards Board.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-13 LEVEL:
Requires the completion of the equivalent of 1 year of creditable experience at the next lower grade which is directly related to the position to be filled. In addition, pharmacists in these assignments must demonstrate the following knowledges, skills, abilities and other characteristics:

1. Ability to communicate orally and in writing to persuade and influence clinical and ma! nagement decisions.

2. Expert understanding of regulatory and ! quality standards for their program area.

3. Ability to solve problems, coordinate and organize responsibilities to maximize outcomes in their program area or area of clinical expertise.

4. Expert knowledge of a specialized area of clinical pharmacy practice or specialty area of pharmacy.

5. Advanced skill in monitoring and assessing the outcome of drug therapies, including physical assessment and interpretation of laboratory and other diagnostic parameters.
