ABOUT BENEWAH COMMUNITY H! OSPITAL
For more than 50 years Benewah Community Hospital and St. Maries Family Medicine have been providing high quality healthcare to individuals, families and visitors in St. Maries, Benewah, Shoshone and Kootenai counties. They offer patients a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic services providing high quality care in a rural setting. The Hospital offers tele-psychiatry and chemotherapy as well. Meditech 6.0 is in place and stage 1 of meaningful use has been met. The administration and staff are dedicated to providing outstanding quality care to patients.
Benewah Community Hospital is a county owned, 19-bed Critical Access Hospital that is governed by a 7-member appointed Board. Nineteen (19) beds are staffed with an Average Daily Census of four (4). As part of the organization, St.Maries Family Medicine is a Rural Health Clinic. A highly skilled clinic staff of 16 providers includes Family Practice Physicians, an Orthopedic Physician, Nurse Prac! titioners, and Physician's Assistants, as well as numerous vis! iting / consulting Physician Specialists. The population of the hospital's service area is approximately 12,000. Gross patient revenues = $24 million, net patient revenues = $15 million. Accounts Receivable days = 43 (gross) and 34 (net). The hospital has 150 FTE's. Bad debt = 6% of Net Revenue.
Benewah Community Hospital's Emergency Room is fully staffed, 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. All ER physicians are Board Certified with Advanced Life Support training in trauma, cardiac and pediatrics.
Benewah Community Hospital is proud to announce the recent opening of the East Tower, which is part of a $28.5 million renovation and expansion project. The renovations include a new enlarged family practice and specialty practice clinic, new larger patient rooms with private baths, 50 new parking spaces, an expanded emergency department, a more spacious and updated physical therapy department, and more. The expansion provides 54,000 square feet of new space as of ! April 2012. Renovations of remaining campus were completed in April, 2013.

THE OPPORTUNITY
The Chief Executive Officer is responsible for all day-to-day operations of the Hospital and St. Maries Family Medicine. In becoming part of our local community, the person who fills this position will be accountable for planning, organizing, and directing the hospital to ensure that quality patient care is provided and that the financial integrity of the hospital is maintained. The CEO ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations as well as all policies and procedures set forth by the Governing Board and Medical Staff, and those required by Medicare Survey Standards.
The CEO is responsible for creating an environment and culture that enables the hospital to fulfill its mission by meeting or exceeding its goals, conveying the hospital mission to all staff, holding staff accountable ! for their performance as well as motivating them toward improvement. Th! e CEO will be responsible to measure, assess, and document continuous improvement of the hospital's overall performance.
POSITION SUMMARY
At the direction and control of the Hospital's Governing Board, the CEO will provide administrative oversight to all business, administrative, and executive functions of Benewah Community Hospital and St. Maries Family Medicine consistent with and subject to the policies, procedures, and objectives of the hospital's governing board an subject to the governing board's ultimate authority and approval. The CEO will participate in operational decision-making and processes in order to achieve the hospital's mission. The CEO will maintain an awareness of significant changes in the healthcare industry that could have an impact on the success of the hospital, and take appropriate action when necessary to support that success.
THE COMMUNITY
Benewah County is located in beautiful northern Idaho, 1 hour from the r! esort community of Lake Coeur d'Alene, Idaho and 1 hour from metropolitan community of Spokane, WA. St. Marie's population is 2,700 and Benewah County is 9,000. Recreational highlights: The scenic St. Joe and St. Maries rivers meet in St. Maries then join Lake Coeur D'Alene and other chain lakes with many water-related recreational adventures waiting. Fly fishing, hunting, boating, camping, and bike trails along the lake all in town or within 20 minutes. Major shopping, Broadway shows, nice dining, an international airport are all within 1 hour. There are 4 major ski mountains within 1hr - 2.5 hours.
Cultural features and historic interest: Hosted the World Jet Boat Racing Championship in 2012, over 7 colleges and universities within 1-2.5 hours, Paul Bunyan Days Festival and Fireworks draws over 20,000 people each year and there are many close-by historical trails including the Hiawatha Bike Trail (ridethehiawatha.com).
St. Maries Joint School Dist! rict #41 has an excellent reputation and provides quality education for! students. The responsibilities of the CEO include, but not limited to:
Provide leadership to hospital managers, directors and officers that will instill ownership of goals and encourage active participation in decisions that impact the success of the hospital.
Take a leadership role in recruiting and retaining physicians.
Develop and maintain positive relations within the community.
Create an environment that will encourage the recruiting and retention of qualified hospital employees.
Plan, promote and conduct organization-wide performance improvement activities.
Manage cost! s, in conjunction with the Director of Nursing Services and Chief Financial Officer, by eliminating non-value costs
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience and Skills
Minimum of 5 years progressive experience in hospital operations as hospital CEO or equivalent.
Knowledge and/or experience related to "critical access" hospitals
Strong physician relations and understanding of physician practice management.
Experience in managed care, knowledge in quality initiatives, and skills necessary to move our organization towards providing the highest level of quality care for our customers.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to effectively engage the staff, community, and others in order to carry out the responsibilities of the position.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field
(MHA or MBA preferred)
