About the Memphis VA Medical Center: The VAMC in Memphis, Tennessee consists of one main campus located at 1030 Jefferson Avenue, which includes a sixty-bed Spinal Cord Injury Unit, and ten community based outpatient clinics (CBOC). It is a tertiary care facility classified as a Clinical Referral Level I Facility and one of the most complex medical centers in the VA system. It is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology, as well as extensive education and research programs. DUTIES:

The VA Medical Center (VAMC) in Memphis, Tennessee is seeking a board certified Physician to serve as the Chief of Compensation and Pension for Ambulatory Care Service. The incumbent in this position is responsible for clinical duties in the Compensation and Pension setting. The duties include (but are not limited to) completing C & P exams and opinions to provide very specific information in order to ensure a proper evaluation of the claimed disability rather than to provide medical treatment. The compensation and pension examination is written for Rating Veterans Service Representative (RVSRs), lawyer, and judges to understand.

The city of Memphis has an International Airport, Home of Fed EX, International Paper, and Medtronic. The incumbent must hold an unrestricted medical license. Previous chief grade level of experience in the VA preferred. Memphis is the heart of the Mid-South, with a seasonal climate and has a lot to offer. There is no state income tax. The city offers a variety of activities for the most discriminating entertainment connoisseur: Beale Street, where the blues, jazz and rock meet on one street; Memphis in May International Festival; NBA Memphis Grizzlies; Memphis Redbirds; Mud Island; Graceland, home of Elvis Presley; several theaters, touring shows, music, art, science museums and a special children's museum; many parks, gardens, golf courses, lakes and nearby forests. a. Citizenship - US Citizenship required unless US Citizens are not available . Non-citizens may be appointed when no citizens are available in accordance with regulations issued by the Under Secretary for Health. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) supports the Exchange Visitor Program and the 2-year home residence requirement and seeks waivers only when it is clearly in the interest of the Department and its programs.

b. Education - Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine, and board certification or eligibility in Internal Medicine or Family Practice are required at the time of starting employment.

c. Licensure and Registration - Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States , or in the District of Columbia .

d. Physical Standards - Applicant must meet the physical standards established for this position.

e. English Language Proficiency - Applicant must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(s) and 7407(d).
