About the Memphis VA Medical Center: The VAMC in Memphis, Tennessee consists of ! one main campus located at 1030 Jefferson Avenue, which includes a sixty-bed Spinal Cord Injury Unit, and ten community based outpatient clinics (CBOC). It is a tertiary care facility classified as a Clinical Referral Level 1 Facility and one of the most complex medical centers in the VA system. It is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology, as well as extensive education and research programs. Comprehensive primary, secondary, and tertiary health care is provided in areas of medicine, general cardiovascular and neurological surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, spinal cord injury, neurology, oncology, dentistry, and geriatrics. Specialized outpatient services are provided through general, specialty, and subspecialty outpatient clinics including a womenÂ's health center. Services are available to more than 206,000 Veterans living in a fifty three county tri-state area (Tennessee, Arkansas, a! nd Mississippi).

Work hours are Monday through Friday
during approved day tour shifts (i.e., 8:00a.m. to 4:30p.m.); however, hours
and days may be modified to provide for extended clinic hours including
weekends, to support the Department of Veterans Affairs mission to provide the
best care possible at hours convenie! nt to our Veteran population. On call
may be required after 4:30pm and on weekends and holidays. The ten (10)

INTRODUCTION:
The Memphis VA Medical Center is
recruiting for board certified and/or board eligible Gastroenterology
Physicians to provide primary care for a panel of patients in an outpatient
clinic setting. The duties include (but are
not limited to) providing comprehensive care to a panel of Veteran patients in
an outpatient setting, completion of clinical reminders related to
preventive medicine, and achieving performance measure goals related to
clinical outcomes. Care is delivered ac! cording to the Patient Aligned Care Team
(PACT) model and focuses on team approach, patient centeredness, and
prevention.

Duties may or may not include precepting of medical students
and residents and functioning as collaborating physician for mid-level
practitioners (including Peer chart
review, assisting in performance evaluations, mentoring, and collaborating) QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates must meet all the requirements
identified in the VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G15, Physician

Physical standards - All applicants must meet the physical standards for the position. A physical examination prior to employment may be required.

Licensure and Registration - Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, Terr! itory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States or in t! he District of Columbia. The Physician must maintain a current registration to continue employment with the VA Educational requirements.

Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: For residents, graduation from an approved medical school as described above is required. First-Year Residency (Internship) - Completed a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was competed. For a VA resident, the appropriate Deans Committee and Resident Review Board may recommend appointment on the basis of the candidate's acceptability for residency training. Approved residencies are: Those appro! ved by the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals, American Medical Association, in the list published for the year the residency was completed OR Other residencies or their equivalents which the Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. The Board may determine that the residency requirement has been met if the candidate has completed 1 year of postgraduate education.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
Drug Enforcement Agency number (DEA) is required to prescribe medication.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
A Tennessee medical license is highly desired as it allows the incumbent to participate in involuntary custody hold and commitment activities.
Completion of an accredited residency training program.
Board certification in Gastroenterology is preferred, but must be board eligible.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The Psychiatrist should be physically and! mentally capable to perform the duties of the position. Physical activ! ities include sitting, standing (up to 2 hours) walking (up to 2 hours), heavy lifting (45 pounds or over), reaching above the shoulder, and repeated bending.
